Copied from the History Page
Recently Bruce Heasley has been compiling a history of all clubs in and around Auckland. He has retrieved a huge amount of information which we are now able to make available here. Please see the Archive page for more details.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This history was compiled over many years by Bruce Heasley of Epsom Remuera Croquet Club.
Bruce has always been interested in the history of croquet and was acutely aware that there were many clubs in the past that have since disappeared.
It all started about 2010 when Margaret Till and Bruce visited the site of the Winstone Park Croquet Club, which was located at what is now the Dominion Road on-ramp to the South Western Motorway; ............ and sort of grew from there on.
Bruce's information was originally hard copy contained within two lever arch files and in 2017 some interested parties were concerned that such a body of work, being the only copy, was vulnerable and the pages were digitalised.
It is intended to be a "living" record of croquet in the Auckland region and comments, updates and additions are welcomed.
If you wish to contribute to any of the club histories please send any further information to Bruce at [email protected] indicating your authorship. Bruce will be more than interested to receive them.
Please bear in mind that the history is about the clubs rather than people (although the two do tend to get entwined).
We hope you enjoy reading Bruce's labour of love as much as we did.
